« Iraqi reporter al-Zaidi’s arm, ribs broken »

Webmaster’s Commentary:

Iraq cheers reporter for Bush shoe attack

Citizens in Baghdad have ennobled a frogmarched Iraqi reporter for throwing his shoes at lame duck US President George W. Bush.

Iraqi reporter Muntadhar al-Zaidi shocked the world on Sunday by hurling his shoes at the visiting US president, who had come to the war-torn country to say farewell.

Sitting in the third row at a press conference attended by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, the reporter ‘jumped up’ and shouted « It is the farewell kiss, you dog. »

Showing the sole of your shoe to someone in the Arab world is a sign of extreme disrespect, and throwing your shoes is even worse.

A study conducted by ORB — a well-known British polling agency which has been tracking public opinion in Iraq since 2005 — estimated in September 2007 that 1.2 million Iraqis had been killed in violence-related incidents following the March 2003 invasion of the country.

This is while Human Rights Watch estimates put the number of those killed during a period of twenty years of the reign of deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein at 250,000 to 290,000.

Across Mideast, Arabs hail shoe-hurling journalist

Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets Monday to demand the release of a reporter who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush, as Arabs across many parts of the Middle East hailed the journalist as a hero and praised his insult as a proper send-off to the unpopular U.S. president.

Bush Comparison Seen As Unfair to Dogs

This is the question now raised in Iraq: If they throw shoes at your face are you a combat troop or a noncombat troop? The answer may be important in helping to guide President Elect Obama’s strategy of reducing but continuing the genocidal occupation that has made a shoeless journalist one of the most beloved, if little known, people in the world overnight.

Nouvel Ordre Mondial:

And now for a world government

Webmaster’s Commentary:

Here comes the call for a global government. It sounds benign and wonderful until you remember two important points.

1. Global government is what Alexander the Great and Hitler (among others) wanted.

2. Globalism is what turned a US economic melt-down into a world-wide disaster.

Financial Times Editorial Admits Agenda For Dictatorial World Government

The Financial Times, one of the most respected and widely read newspapers on the planet, features an editorial today that openly admits the agenda to create a world government based on anti-democratic principles and concedes that the term “global governance” is merely a euphemism for the move towards a centralized global government.

Greek-inspired protests spread across Europe

The unrest that has gripped Greece is spilling over into the rest of Europe, raising concerns the clashes could be a trigger for opponents of globalization, disaffected youth and others outraged by the continent’s economic turmoil and soaring unemployment.

Protesters in Spain, Denmark and Italy smashed shop windows, pelted police with bottles and attacked banks this week, while in France, cars were set ablaze Thursday outside the Greek consulate in Bordeaux, where protesters scrawled graffiti warning about a looming « insurrection. »

At least some of the protests were organized over the Internet, showing how quickly the message of discontent can be spread, particularly among tech-savvy youth. One Web site Greek protesters used to update each other on the locations of clashes asserted there have been sympathy protests in nearly 20 countries.

More demonstrations were set for Friday in Italy, France and Germany.

Banks gas-bombed in Athens

Five banks were attacked overnight in Athens, police said Saturday as youths prepared to assemble at the scene of a teen’s killing by police one week ago.

Webmaster’s Commentary:

The fact that the banks were attacked confirms that the real issue in all these riots is opposition to the financial system which is impoverishing the world’s people.

Greece-Style Riots Coming To U.S.

Frighteningly accurate trends forecaster Gerald Celente says that America will see riots similar to those currently ongoing in Greece and that the cause will be a hyper-inflationary depression, leading to the inevitable use of troops and mercenaries to deal with the crisis as Americans are incarcerated in internment camps.

Who are the protesters in Greece?

The fatal police shooting of a teenager in Athens on Saturday and its violent aftermath are in many ways a spill over of a decades-long conflict that has simmered between police and far-left anarchist groups.

The violence has also laid bare a deeper anger that has been gaining ground in Greece over the government’s policies in slashing budget deficits and pushing on with unpopular reforms such as privatisations.

This anger has been exacerbated by a series of financial and political scandals among prominent members of the government of Costas Karamanlis, Greece’s prime minister.

Webmaster’s Commentary:

I knew there was more going on than just that shooting.

9 more banks nationalized

Nine more banks said their applications to sell preferred stock to the Treasury Department were approved. They will receive a total of $133.4 million in taxpayer capital.

Fed Refuses to Disclose Recipients of $2 Trillion in Lending

The Federal Reserve refused a request by Bloomberg News to disclose the recipients of more than $2 trillion of emergency loans from U.S. taxpayers and the assets the central bank is accepting as collateral.

Webmaster’s Commentary:

What is happening here is the new « taxation without representation », which caused a bit of a stir here some 200 plus years ago.

This is the Fed saying, « we can take your money, which you worked hard to earn, and give it our cronies, and you…little people… don’t deserve to know at all what’s going on with it. Go back to your puny little jobs… nothing to see here, move along! »

But, you argue, we have elected legislators who are supposed to represent us!

Really?!?!

No; we have representatives who have become the acquisitions of those large corporations which support them, covertly and overtly.

As long as that tax money keeps flowing, our alleged representatives don’t give a damn about the people it’s coming from.

The concept of representative government in this country has become one sick, stupid joke, played on the taxpayers at their expense.

Ex-Nasdaq chair arrested on fraud charge in NYC

A former Nasdaq stock market chairman was arrested on a securities fraud charge Thursday, accused of running a fraudulent investment business that lost at least $50 billion before he confessed to senior employees it was a « giant Ponzi scheme, » authorities said.

How low can the Fed go?

The inflating balance sheet is making life hard for the Fed. In the early phases of the present mayhem, Fed officials funded their programs as they drew down holdings of Treasury bonds. They used the proceeds to finance new programs. But officials don’t want the backroom pile to get too low — like your savings account, credit rating, Social Security, or my bond portfolio. The Fed nut is now at $476 billion, with a chunk of it committed to other programs. The Fed has actually asked the Treasury Department for cash. Bernanke offered to go out in the street with his hat in hand.

Madoff warnings ‘ignored for 10 years’

Collapse of Pension Funds: The End of Retirement?

Unless things change fast, human history will show that the phenomenon of “retirement” was limited to one generation. After World War II, when European and Japanese economies stood in tatters, American capitalism could fulfill “the American dream,” since there was little foreign competition to speak of. For the first time ever, workers were promised that — after working thirty or so years — they would be able to securely retire. That was largely the case…for one generation.

It’s official: Men really are the weaker sex

December 7, 2008, The Independent (One of the U.K.’s leading newspapers)

The male [sex] is in danger, with incalculable consequences for both humans and wildlife, startling scientific research from around the world reveals. The research … shows that a host of common chemicals is feminising males of every class of vertebrate animals, from fish to mammals, including people. Backed by some of the world’s leading scientists, who say that it « waves a red flag » for humanity and shows that evolution itself is being disrupted, the report comes out at a particularly sensitive time for ministers. It also follows hard on the heels of new American research which shows that baby boys born to women exposed to widespread chemicals in pregnancy are born with smaller penises and feminised genitals. « This research shows that the basic male tool kit is under threat, » says Gwynne Lyons, a former government adviser on the health effects of chemicals, who wrote the report. Wildlife and people have been exposed to more than 100,000 new chemicals in recent years, and the European Commission has admitted that 99 per cent of them are not adequately regulated. There is not even proper safety information on 85 per cent of them. Many have been identified as « endocrine disrupters » – or gender-benders – because they interfere with hormones. These include phthalates, used in food wrapping, cosmetics and baby powders among other applications; flame retardants in furniture and electrical goods; PCBs, a now banned group of substances still widespread in food and the environment; and many pesticides.

Cheney admits authorizing detainee’s torture

When asked by ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl whether he approved of interrogation tactics used against a so-called « high value prisoner » at the controversial Guantanamo Bay prison, Mr. Cheney, in a break from his history of being press-shy, admitted to giving official sanctioning of torture.

OK, Cheney just admitted he authorized torture on national television.

And what happens now?!? Will there be a trial, a prosecution, and a conviction of Cheney and his enabling minions who normalized torture as an accepted US interrogation technique?

Ali Qeisi, head of the group the « Society of Victims of the US Occupation in Iraq, » said the cases, relating to torture and abuse of Iraqi prisoners, have been recently filed in federal courts in Virginia, Michigan and Maryland.

Webmaster’s Commentary:

Unless and until all who condoned, ordered, and signed off on the use of torture against detainees are prosecuted to the fullest extent of US law, this country’s moral fiber will have been ripped to shreds in an irrecoverable way.

Rep. Reyes: Since Torture Might Be Necessary, Obama Should Keep Torture Apologists Hayden, McConnell

Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told Congress Daily that President-elect Obama should keep Mike McConnell on as Director of National Intelligence and Michael Hayden as head of the CIA. He said Obama should keep “continuity” in the intelligence sector because we live in “a world that is very dangerous.”

Reyes dismissed concerns over Hayden and McConnell’s records as apologists for torture. He insisted that that “there are some options that need to be available” to interrogators — presumably beyond the Army Field Manuel — to get the best information:

Webmaster’s Commentary:

Memo to Representative Reyes; the United States of America should not torture, ever.

Apparently, Representative Reyes, you’ve never George Washington’s orders to his troops about never using torture on captured British soldiers.

And as we know from the time of the Inquisition, torture doesn’t get you the hard information you’re looking for; it only gets the tortured person to say what their torturers want them to say in order to get the torture to stop.

By torturing (even subcontracting or off-shoring it), we have de-facto withdrawn from any human rights treaty to which the US has been a signatory.

And if you want to elevate torture right up there with mom and apple pie, chew on this one for a moment; if torture is perfectly legitimate for us to practice on foreign nationals, then why is it not perfectly legitimate for foreign governments to torture US troops?

America used to be known as the land of the free, and the home of the brave. But there is nothing brave about torturing. It’s like never having to take responsibility for indulging your inner sadist, while the guys in the suits in some distant capital applaud you for what you have done to a fellow human being.

Ultimately, torturing puts us on the moral par with Uzbekistan, and that’s not the United States any country or person can look up to.

And Representative Reyes, one final, friendly word of advise; if you travel abroad, and feel compelled to bloviate about the American values of human rights, human decency, humanitarianism, and democracy, just please shut up until the urge passes.

You no longer represent a country which holds those values dear, and the world knows that.

Attorneys: Fort Dix Terror Plot Was “Planted And Nurtured” By FBI Informants

Lawyers in a case relating to a much vaunted 2007 terror plot have concluded that FBI informants were the key figures behind the operation and that the accused, six foreign-born Muslims, were merely bungling patsies.

Defense attorneys have denied there was any plot, arguing two FBI informants concocted and encouraged the conspiracy because they were being paid and promised legal immigration status, reports the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

Desperate Double Speak: Global Cooling Is Part Of Global Warming

An Associated Press article has stunned some readers by suggesting that an ongoing global cooling trend is actually indicative of how quickly the planet is succumbing to man-made global warming.

The bizarre statement appeared in a panic-inducing article that emphasizes man-made warming fears and highlights how president elect Obama must tackle them with new laws including a carbon tax “cap-and-trade” system.

Webmaster’s Commentary:

I think we can establish that the Global Warning cult is a perfect textbook example of politicians taking something that occurs naturally, and turning into a crisis to justify a new tax.

Whale songs drowned out by human noise pollution

December 3, 2008, Seattle Post-Intelligencer/Associated Press

The songs that whales and dolphins use to communicate, orient themselves and find mates are being drowned out by human-made noises in the world’s oceans. That sound pollution — everything from increasing commercial shipping and seismic surveys to a new generation of military sonar — is not only confounding the mammals, it also is further threatening the survival of these endangered animals. Studies show that these cetaceans, which once communicated over thousands of miles to forage and mate, are losing touch with each other, … experts said at a U.N. wildlife conference in Rome. « Call it a cocktail-party effect, » said Mark Simmonds, director of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, a Britain-based NGO. « You have to speak louder and louder until no one can hear each other anymore. » Environmental groups also are increasingly finding cases of beached whales and dolphins that can be linked to sound pollution, Simmonds said. Marine mammals are turning up on the world’s beaches with tissue damage similar to that found in divers suffering from decompression sickness. Scientists say the use of military sonar or seismic testing may have scared the animals into diving and surfacing beyond their physical limits. Several species of cetaceans are already listed as endangered or critically endangered from other causes, including hunting, chemical pollution, collisions with boats and entanglements with fishing equipment. Though it is not yet known precisely how many animals are affected, sound pollution is increasingly being recognized as a serious factor, the experts said.

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism.

The Suspect Society

The Surveillance Society. The New Authoritarianism. The Age of Paranoid Politics. These are just a few of the ways writers and thinkers describe the age we’re now living in. The signs of anxiety and fear in this post 9-11 era are all around us. School lock-downs are called the new fire-drill. Recently, many schools boards in Canada made rehearsing the lock-down mandatory. The number of security staff in schools is increasing every year. By 2010 for example, there will be more security guards than teachers in American schools. But, the uniforms aren’t just being worn by security staff. More and more American public schools have adopted uniforms for students. Meanwhile the U.S. army is embedding itself in schools – targeting younger and younger students for recruitment. In Canada recruitment comes through video games that inform, entertain and seduce « action-focused males starting at 17 years old ».

The Pentagon’s Pain Compliance and Mind Control Weapons

The U.S. Defense department has tested some spooky weapons, but those involving mind control and telepathic attack may be near the top of the list. A newly declassified 1998 document released under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act (download the pdf here), describes potential weapons for crowd control, such as a microwave gun that could beam words directly into people’s ears, and an electromagnetic pulse that causes epilepsy-like seizures.

All that is missing is the branding iron.

NORTHCOM Furthers NAU Police State Agenda

The criminals in the U.S. government are continuing the push for a militarized North American Union police state. According to an announcement on U.S. Northern Command’s web site, an agreement has been signed between U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and Canada Command (CANADACOM) that allows the military from either nation to support the armed forces of the other during a civil emergency.

Canada, U.S. agree to use each other’s troops in civil emergencies

One has to wonder if these so-called « civil emergencies » include the imposition of martial law here in the US, as foreigners will have less angst about being ordered to shoot to kill.

One certainly did not see anything about the signing of this treaty in either most of the major papers, and certainly not on lamestream television news.

1 in every 350 Americans is considered a possible « terrorist »

Almost 1 million people will be put on the « watch list » by years end. This is incredible and utterly insane. How can the government expect us as citizens to believe that 1 in every 350 people need to be watched. When I heard this news all I could think was that 1984 is already here. I am afraid just by writing this and posting it online I will be added to the list.

And here is the real kicker. By having so many people on the terrorist watch list for purely political reasons, it makes the list useless for finding real terrorists (as opposed to the fake ones who pop up when the government needs them).

The School Crotch Inspector

There are two kinds of people in the world: the kind who think it’s perfectly reasonable to strip-search a 13-year-old girl suspected of bringing ibuprofen to school, and the kind who think those people should be kept as far away from children as possible. The first group includes officials at Safford Middle School in Safford, Arizona, who in 2003 forced eighth-grader Savana Redding to prove she was not concealing Advil in her crotch or cleavage.

Parents fury after police blast schoolgirls as young as 13 with CS gas to break up school fight

Parents hit out at police for ‘putting their children’s lives in danger’ after they blasted 15 schoolgirls with CS gas spray near a busy road.

CS gas is ILLEGAL to use in warfare. And the cops spray the kids with it.

CS = 2-chlorobenzylidène malonitrile

The Age of Criminalizing Children

I remember when I was in school, misbehaving children received a visit to the principal´s office, detention, in-house or off grounds suspension, but now schools have police or « safety » officers on the grounds, quick to view our kids as hardened criminals.

Two 4-year-old boys were removed from a preschool class and handcuffed by the school safety officer for refusing to take a nap. The boys said the officer told them « You know what happens when you don’t go to sleep in there? . . . When you go to jail, you’re not going to have no fun, no TV, no toys. » The parents of the boys are suing the city. New York Post

A 6-year-old girl was arrested on charges of disruption of a school function, battery on school employees (a felony), and resisting arrest for throwing a temper tantrum in class. The child was taken to the county jail, fingerprinted and had a mug shot taken. The chief of police stated, « Those are the normal procedures for anyone who is arrested. » The battered school employee was left with a red mark. Welcome to Pottersville

The parents of an 11-year-old disabled boy filed notice of claim as a preclude to a lawsuit that their child´s civil rights were violated by a school security guard who handcuffed him on the playground. The boy, who has a rare genetic disorder and has learning issues, had picked up a small stone to add to his collection of « lucky rocks », when his aide told him to put it down. The boy was then thrown to the ground and handcuffed behind his back, dislodging his feeding tube. After the incident, the principal suspended the child for a day for « aggressive behavior toward himself and staff members. » FOX News

An 11-year-old boy spent 72 hours in a juvenile jail for accidentally shooting another student with a slingshot made of a stretchy balloon, a milk cap and rubber bands. The sixth grader was arrested on second-degree felony charges of shooting or throwing a deadly missile. The boy claimed he shot a plastic pellet into his locker and it ricocheted hitting a classmate, leaving a small welt on injured child´s chest. Information Liberation

FLASHBACK: Pentagon devising scenarios for martial law in US

According to a report published Monday by the Washington Post, the Pentagon has developed its first ever war plans for operations within the continental United States, in which terrorist attacks would be used as the justification for imposing martial law on cities, regions or the entire country.

« This would all be easier if this were a dictatorship, as long as I am the dictator. » — Dubya

Administration Asserts No Fourth Amendment for Domestic Military Operations

While the newly released memo focuses on « asserting that federal laws prohibiting assault, maiming and other crimes did not apply to military interrogators, » it contains a footnote referencing another Administration memo that caught our eye:

… our Office recently concluded that the Fourth Amendment had no application to domestic military operations. See Memorandum for Alberto R. Gonzales, Counsel to the President, and William J. Haynes, II, General Counsel, Department of Defense, from John C. Yoo, Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Robert J. Delahunty, Special Counsel, Re: Authority for Use of Military Force to Combat Terrorist Activities Within the United States at 25 (Oct 23, 2001). (emphasis added)

So, with the abandonment of the Bill of Rights and the admission that the spying on Americans is a « Domestic Military Operation » it appears that we are indeed the military dictatorship Bush joked about.

If the President can suspend the Bill of Rights at will, then they are not rights of free citizens, but merely indulgences by a master to favored slaves.

Bush Replaced REX84 With New Martial Law EO

In May 2007, Bush signed executive new orders NSDP51 and HSDP20 to replace REX84. The older order REX84 was an older directive to establish martial law in the event of a national emergency. Everything done in government is done for a reason, and these two new orders are no exception.

These new directives surprised and alarmed many real conservatives and true patriots at the time. These two orders established that the White House administration would take over all local governments under a national state of emergency, instead of Homeland Security.

CIA enlists Google’s help for spy work

Agencies such as the National Security Agency have bought servers on which Google-supplied search technology is used to process information gathered by networks of spies around the world.

Google is also providing the search features for a Wikipedia-style site, called Intellipedia, on which agents post information about their targets that can be accessed and appended by colleagues, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The contracts are just a number that have been entered into by Google’s ‘federal government sales team’, that aims to expand the company’s reach beyond its core consumer and enterprise operations.

This means that CIA will start working to influence Google’s consumer services as well. Time to start looking at other search engines.

Bush Plans To Monitor Internet Data

According to the Wall Street Journal, the White House is proposing a six billion dollar secretive system that would monitor Internet traffic and collect personal data.

The proposal from President George Bush would be designed to protect US communications networks from attacks by terrorists, spies and hackers but is stirring controversy and could prove a hard sell to Congress and the American public amid divisiveness about other Government-run surveillance programs.

Feds Are Seizing Phones, Computers U.S. Agents Seize Travelers’ Devices

Nabila Mango, a therapist and a U.S. citizen who has lived in the country since 1965, had just flown in from Jordan last December when, she said, she was detained at customs and her cellphone was taken from her purse. Her daughter, waiting outside San Francisco International Airport, tried repeatedly to call her during the hour and a half she was questioned. But after her phone was returned, Mango saw that records of her daughter’s calls had been erased.

A few months earlier in the same airport, a tech engineer returning from a business trip to London objected when a federal agent asked him to type his password into his laptop computer. « This laptop doesn’t belong to me, » he remembers protesting. « It belongs to my company. » Eventually, he agreed to log on and stood by as the officer copied the Web sites he had visited, said the engineer, a U.S. citizen who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of calling attention to himself.

Maria Udy, a marketing executive with a global travel management firm in Bethesda, said her company laptop was seized by a federal agent as she was flying from Dulles International Airport to London in December 2006. Udy, a British citizen, said the agent told her he had « a security concern » with her. « I was basically given the option of handing over my laptop or not getting on that flight, » she said.

The seizure of electronics at U.S. borders has prompted protests from travelers who say they now weigh the risk of traveling with sensitive or personal information on their laptops, cameras or cellphones. In some cases, companies have altered their policies to require employees to safeguard corporate secrets by clearing laptop hard drives before international travel.

This is the prudent thing to do. Far from combating terror or crime, Federal agents have a long history (at least as far back as the Seattle APEC scandal) of looting business secrets from Americans to give to cronies or to personally profit from them.

Of course in my own case the bozo with the badge didn’t get any business secrets because he dropped my laptop and wrecked it.

No proof airport security makes flying safer-study

Airport security lines can annoy passengers, but there is no evidence that they make flying any safer, U.S. researchers reported on Thursday.

The time-consuming and humiliating practices at US airports, put in place after 9/11, have never been about security.

They have only been about cowing air passengers with the limitless, and thoroughly thuggish, authority of the State.

IT’S ALL FOR SHOW! Like « Burt the Turtle » and « Duck and cover » you are not really any safer. It’s just a sham to make it LOOK like the government cares about you while it goes off lying about and invading other nations.

HOW TO SUCK MORE MONEY OUT OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

Step 1: Use taxpayer money and additional ticket fees to add tons of security to make airport travel a painful experience.

Step 2: Sell travelers a card to let them go back to boarding planes hassle free like they used to before all the added security.

Net effect? People still get on the planes like they used to, but are now suckered into paying for security systems and paying more to ignore them.

Such a deal!

Woman Told To Remove Nipple Rings For SoCal Flight

A Texas woman who claims she was forced to remove a nipple ring with pliers in order to board an airplane called Thursday for an apology by federal security agents and a civil rights investigation.

FBI posts fake hyperlinks to snare child porn suspects

The FBI has recently adopted a novel investigative technique: posting hyperlinks that purport to be illegal videos of minors having sex, and then raiding the homes of anyone willing to click on them.

Don’t the FBI have real crimes that have actually been committed to investigate? What happens if someone clicks the link out of idle curiosity to see what all the hubbub is about? What if someone uses a malicious forwarder inside an otherwise innocuous looking web page (or even a message posted on a blog) to drive unwary readers’ web browsers to the FBI’s page?

Clicking Is Not a Criminal Offense

The FBI has begun busting people for clicking on links that advertise child pornography. At first blush, that may sound like a good thing, so let me just re-state: The FBI can arrest and convict you based on no other evidence than the fact that your browser visited a Web page.

Still not scared? Let me give you a few examples of how I could easily make your browser visit the wrong site, if I wanted to ruin your life.

It might also be used to find weapons entirely legal under the Bill of Rights. If the drift of Congress is any indication — and possibly soon enough the drift of the Supreme Court — what is completely legal today may become illegal and thus subject to confiscation tomorrow. It is not too far out to imagine a Ministry sub-contracted thug from Blackwater with one of these soon-to-be perfected and manufactured devices scanning your home looking for the family shotgun. If you doubt this can happen, remember “deputized” Blackwater goons going door-to-door in New Orleans seizing entirely legal firearms.

New super-cameras mean no hiding for drivers who smoke, eat or use a phone

Digital speed cameras which capture drivers smoking or eating at the wheel are being introduced nationwide in a new move to hammer motorists.

Drivers will also face fines, bans and even jail for infringements such as driving without a seatbelt, using a hand-held mobile phone or overtaking across double white lines.

The hi-tech DVD cameras, which have instant playback, will also be used to provide photographic evidence against those eating sandwiches or rolling-up cigarettes at the wheel.

Roadside cameras that detect BLOOD will catch lone drivers who abuse car-sharing lanes

Motorists will be targeted by a new generation of road cameras which work out how many people are in a car by measuring the amount of bodily fluid it contains.

The latest snooping device on the nation’s roads aims to penalise lone drivers who abuse car-sharing lanes, and is part of a Government effort to combat congestion at busy times.

The cameras work by sending an infrared beam through the windscreen of vehicles which detects the unique make-up of blood and water content in human skin.

Arrested, caged and DNA tested – for using MP3

A commuter was arrested at gunpoint and had his DNA and fingerprints taken simply for listening to his MP3 player while waiting for a bus.

The amazing thing about this story is that apparently, the police were too stupid to realize it was an mp3 player during the entire time he was arrested, transported, fingerprinted, photographed, DNA swabbed, and tossed in a cell.

White House guts Intelligence Oversight Board

On Friday, the White House issued a new executive order effectively gutting the Intelligence Oversight Board (IOB), “created in 1976 in the wake of widespread abuses by U.S. intelligence agencies.” Under the order, many of the IOB’s investigative powers will now be transfered to DNI Mike McConnell. “Rather than intelligence agencies reporting their activities to the board for review, they will now report them to McConnell,” the AP notes.

Bush guarantees attack bigger than 9/11

False Flag Prospects, 2008 — Top Three US Target Cities

The easiest way to carry out a false flag attack is by setting up a military exercise that simulates the very attack you want to carry out. As I’ll detail below, this is exactly how government perpetrators in the US and UK handled the 9/11 and 7/7 « terror » attacks, which were in reality government attacks blamed on « terrorists. »

My aim, as a former military intelligence officer who spent five years with the U.S. Army 75th Division conducting military war games, is to convince the American people that the « next 9/11 » — constantly promised by officials and the media — is likely to be carried out under the guise of future military exercises. If the American people are aware of pending exercises and the danger they represent, then the exercises cannot « go live » and effect the very terror events that they are supposed to be rehearsing against.

Retroactive telecom immunity was passed, 31-67. Roll call here so you can see who the traitors were

Senate OKs immunity for telecoms

With just a few days until a stop-gap surveillance measure expires, the Senate finally seemed ready to acquiesce to President Bush’s demand that telecommunications companies that helped him spy on Americans be let off the hook.

This congress repeatedly just rolls over and plays dead when it comes to giving Bush everything he demands.

Don’t expect much from the house as it considers this bill either.

I will really be surprised if the house version strips telecom immunity out of the bill.

FBI warns of possible Hezbollah revenge in U.S.

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security sent a bulletin Friday to state and local law enforcement authorities advising them to watch for potential retaliatory strikes by Hezbollah, one day after the Lebanese militia group vowed to avenge the death of a top commander by attacking Israeli and Jewish targets around the world.

It couldn’t be that this administration is concocting some kind of false flag operation to be ultimately blamed on Iran, could it?

Or are they, predictably, playing the « fear card » because Bush didn’t get the FISA bill he wanted passed by the House before he left for his African trip?

Whistleblower: Cellular carrier giving FBI unfettered access

Pasdar discovered evidence of the backdoor when he was part of a rapid deployment team that was brought in to facilitate a large-scale network security hardware migration for the mobile carrier. During the migration, Pasdar was instructed not to migrate the traffic for one particular DS-3, which was referred to as the « Quantico Circuit » by consultants who worked closely with the carrier (the FBI Academy is based in Quantico, Virginia).

Whistle-Blower: Feds Have a Backdoor Into Wireless Carrier — Congress Reacts

The CIA Eyes the Internet

The next phase in the institution of fascist law enforcement involves cyber-security and the Internet. Media martinets have been making noise about cyber-terrorism lately – similar to the manner in which they raised a good scare over anthrax preceding the mailing of the spores – and the CIA is currently laying the justification for legislation that will permit spying on us via our computers with this story in the current PC World: « CIA Says Hackers Have Cut Power Grid »:

« Several cities outside the U.S. have sustained attacks on utility systems and extortion demands. »

No one but the CIA appears to know anything about the outages and attendant extortion demands, and now the Company – one that trains death squads and put Saddam Hussein in power – is graciously letting us in on it …

If there is going to be a new false-flag attack, the internet will have to shut down by the US Government and Israel because otherwise,m the evidence of another hoax will be global in about fifteen seconds after it happens. No doubt the mainstream media will assure us all that somehow it suits Al Qaeda’s interests to shut down the one and only watchdog on the lies of the US Government.

Documents prove FBI has national eavesdropping program that tracks IMs, emails and cell phones

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been routinely monitoring the e-mails, instant messages and cell phone calls of suspects across the United States — and has done so, in many cases, without the approval of a court.

agents don’t need a court order to track to track the senders and recipients names, or how long calls or email exchanges lasted. These can be obtained simply by showing it’s « relevant » to a probe.

The right to privacy in the US no longer exists.

ISPs hog rights in fine print

Those documents you agree to — usually without reading — ostensibly allow your ISP to watch how you use the Internet, read your e-mail or keep you from visiting sites it deems inappropriate. Some reserve the right to block traffic and, for any reason, cut off a service that many users now find essential.

The Associated Press reviewed the « Acceptable Use Policies » and « Terms of Service » of the nation’s 10 largest ISPs — in all, 117 pages of contracts that leave few rights for subscribers.

« The network is asserting almost complete control of the users’ ability to use their network as a gateway to the Internet, » said Marvin Ammori, general counsel of Free Press, a Washington-based consumer advocacy group. « They become gatekeepers rather than gateways. »

Memo Shows Bush Administration Says to Hell With Fourth Amendment Rights

News last week of former White House lawyer John Yoo’s recently disclosed 2003 memo positing, among other things, that the president’s authority as commander in chief allows him to override federal laws prohibiting « assault, maiming and other crimes » against suspects in the « war on terror » was followed by a second revelation: an alarming footnote on page 8 referring to another secret memo, written shortly after 9/11, and, in the name of national security, dispensing with the Fourth Amendment.

If our rights can be rescinded on a whim, then we never had any rights. WE had indulgences by a kindly master to favored slaves, easily bestowed and just as easily withdrawn.

The whole point of the Bill of Rights is that these rights are recognized as permanent and irrevocable. A government that refuses to honor those rights is by definition unconstitutional, and therefore illegal.

Homeland Security invokes nuclear bomb, as Bush quietly links cybersecurity program to NSA

Department of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff has dropped the bomb.

NSA quietly expands domestic spying program, even as Congress balks

« The central role the NSA has come to occupy in domestic intelligence gathering has never been publicly disclosed, » The Wall Street Journal reports on Monday page ones. « But an inquiry reveals that its efforts have evolved to reach more broadly into data about people’s communications, travel and finances in the U.S. than the domestic surveillance programs brought to light since the 2001 terrorist attacks. »

And of course, the 110th Congress sits there, and does absolutely nothing to stop this, lest they be accused of being « soft on terror »

What they are not afraid of, apparently, is being « soft » on those protections which used to be belong to We the People, courtesy of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

New York’s Total Snoop Grid Moving Forward

It seems irrational, spending $106 million to catch car thieves. But then the “initiative” is billed as an adventure in “counter-terrorism,” not one to counter car thieves. Of course, there are precious few terrorists of the Osama bin Laden type on Manhattan, or anywhere else outside of the Middle East, but this matters not, as the point is to monitor the masses, not catch mythical terrorists as they exit strip clubs.

School’s homeland security studies get noticed

The nation’s first comprehensive high school homeland security program, a three-year course to help kids land jobs in the growing anti-terrorism industry, is in its infancy in Maryland. But it’s recently been attracting the attention of educators and school districts from as far away as California and Florida.

So we’ve moved from reading, writing, and math as educational necessities to frisking, following, and fascism?

Steve Tucker served a 10-year prison sentence for selling light bulbs.

In the spring of 1994, the Tucker family received lengthy prison sentences — 10 years for Steve, 16 years for his older brother Gary, and 10 years for his brother’s wife, Joanne — without possibility of parole, for the curiously worded federal crime of « conspiracy to manufacture marijuana. »

Yet federal prosecutors never charged them with buying, selling, growing, transporting, smoking or even possessing marijuana. An 18-month DEA investigation had failed to turn up direct evidence connecting the Tuckers to even a single joint.

Instead, they were locked away for selling the lamps, fertilizer and gardening hardware from the small hydroponic supply shop Gary operated on Buford Highway that enabled their customers to grow pot.

So … do hardware store owners go to jail for selling screwdrivers … which are used to make nuclear weapons?

Film a cop with a camera phone, go to jail

This past October, when Simon Glik used his cell phone to record Boston police officers making what he thought was an overly forceful arrest on Tremont Street, he didn’t think he would be the one who ended up in the back of a police cruiser. But cops saw Glik using his cell phone’s camera with its sound-recording feature, so they arrested him for breaking the Massachusetts law that prohibits secret electronic recording, deemed “wiretapping.”

Gang Members Get Trained in the Army

While hundreds of Mexican soldiers are deserting the army to join drug trafficking gangs, California is facing the opposite problem: A growing number of gang members here have infiltrated the U.S. Armed Forces in order to receive military training.

The numbers speak for themselves: In 2003 there were just 16 incidents of gang members in the U.S. Armed Forces, while in 2006 the total was 10,309, according to the study, « Gang-Related Activity in the U.S. Armed Forces Increasing, » released in 2007 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Twenty-two official entities, including the Los Angeles Police Department, participated in the report.

And just what happens when the men and women upon whom this regimen has been forced when they return home?

Former Congressman Warns Of Martial Law Camps In America

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRIDNQNsUss

An article co-written by a former Congressman and carried by the San Francisco Chronicle has gained much attention recently as it shines light on a coordinated federal government program to build detention camps at undisclosed locations within the United States.

« Since 9/11, and seemingly without the notice of most Americans, the federal government has assumed the authority to institute martial law, arrest a wide swath of dissidents (citizen and noncitizen alike), and detain people without legal or constitutional recourse in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants in the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs. » write Lewis Seiler and former Congressman Dan Hamburg of the watchdog group Voice of the Environment, Inc.

Voice of the Environment’s mission is to educate the public regarding the transfer of public trust assets into private, mostly corporate, hands.

Judges Say Men at Base are Not « Persons » Under U.S. Law

The US follows the noble precedent set by Adolf Hitler of declaring a whole population as not being « persons. »

Criminals With Badges

The American police have never prevented crimes. In olden days, the police solved crimes by finding the guilty party. No more. In our time, the police create crimes. And that is why the US prison population is twice the size of China’s, an authoritarian country with a population four to five times larger than America’s.

**** FBI Deputizes Private Contractors With Extraordinary Powers, Including ‘Shoot to Kill’

One business executive, who showed me his InfraGard card, told me they have permission to « shoot to kill » in the event of martial law. InfraGard is « a child of the FBI, » says Michael Hershman, the chairman of the advisory board of the InfraGard National Members Alliance and CEO of the Fairfax Group, an international consulting firm.

So is Wackenhut.

POlice to be given real-time access to spy satellite data.

When you look at Google Earth, you are often looking at images taken many years ago. as one benign example, taking a close look at the Hawaii State Sound Stages on Oahu, the image does not show the new production office complex which was built two years ago. Many other images used to assemble the Google Earth Map are equally out of date. But police are to be given access to a system with up-to-date spy satellite photos of your homes and businesses, to peek at you, and as was the case with the Seattle APEC, steal your business secrets for their own personal profit (when they are not watching the clothing optional beaches).

The FBI Deputizes Business

Today, more than 23,000 representatives of private industry are working quietly with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security. The members of this rapidly growing group, called InfraGard, receive secret warnings of terrorist threats before the public does—and, at least on one occasion, before elected officials. In return, they provide information to the government, which alarms the ACLU. But there may be more to it than that. One business executive, who showed me his InfraGard card, told me they have permission to “shoot to kill” in the event of martial law.

Call me silly, but the existence of this organization, coupled with the allegation that they are given permission by the DHS to « shoot to kill » in the event of martial law, doesn’t make me feel much more safe.

Cuba demands US gives back Guantanamo Bay

US law sets the precedent where landlords may evict tenants engaged in illegal actions on their property. Hence, with the US engaged in torture and other violations of International Law, there is merit in Cuba’s demand.

It won’t happen, of course, and Cuba risks a war by asking, but they do have a point.

London bombs justify ‘torture’, says Bush

Memo to President Bush; if this country is both utilizing and justifying torture as a normal procedure to garner information under American Law, we should withdraw from any and all human rights treaties this country has ever signed immediately, just to let the world know precisely where we stand.

And where we stand is precisely shoulder to shoulder right now with every repressive, contemptible regime which does this on a routine basis.

We cannot lecture the world about human rights, freedom, human dignity and democracy, and torture at the same time: the resulting mocking laughter is becoming deafening.

White House to veto Senate ban on waterboarding

« This is an extremely valuable interrogation technique which has allowed us to identify many criminals. This soggy fellow right here, for example, has already confessed to shooting down Columbia, Challenger, and the Hindenberg, and this soggy guy here has admitted that he is Jack the Ripper. » — Official White Horse Souse

Justice Dept: Waterboarding not legal

A senior Justice Department official says laws and other limits enacted since three terrorism suspects were waterboarded has eliminated the technique from what is now legally allowed, going a step beyond what CIA Director Michael Hayden has said.

Senate votes to ban waterboarding; Bush vows veto

Joining the House, the Senate has voted to prohibit waterboarding and other harsh methods of interrogation.

Senator McCain voted AGAINST this measure.

Died hanging from wrists and gagged, with over 25 rib fractures

Yes, our tax dollars are paying for this. Hung up by the wrists and beaten so badly that he not only had over 25 separate rib fractures, many slicing into his lungs, he also had a fractured sternum. The thick, solid bone protecting your heart.

This is the image of the United States of America; a man hanging by his wrists with a shattered rib cage, slowly suffocating to death. 2000 years later, we still revile the Romans for a similar form of execution.

The Torture Drawings the Pentagon Doesn’t Want You to See

The outline of Sami’s story should be familiar to readers; last summer AlterNet published a detailed article by Rachel Morris: « Prisoner 345: An Arab Journalist’s Five Years in Guantánamo, » which made clear how Sami was seized because of the erroneous claim that he had interviewed Osama bin Laden, and the disturbing fact that his many interrogations in Guantánamo have focused solely on the administration’s attempts to turn him into an informant against al-Jazeera, to « prove » a connection between the broadcaster and Osama bin Laden that does not exist. As his lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith of the legal action charity Reprieve, noted bluntly and accurately in his book Eight O’Clock Ferry to the Windward Side: Seeking Justice in Guantánamo Bay, « Sami was a prisoner in the Bush Administration’s assault on al-Jazeera. »

If the US can torture people anywhere on the planet, it can ….. and will, ultimately…torture people here.

And don’t think it can’t happen; the legal framework has been put into place to make it not only possible, but probable in the not too distant future. – M. R.

Scalia says courts shouldn’t prohibit torture

BBC

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia rejected the notion that US courts have any control over the actions of American troops at Guantanamo Bay, argued that torture of terror detainees is not banned under the US Constitution and insisted that the high court has no obligation to act as a moral beacon for other nations.

Unflipping believable.

People around the world used to appreciate America’s respect for basic human right, but no longer..

And there’s one other thing Justice Scalia might want to think about: we cannot begin to lecture other countries about freedom, human rights, and democracy when we torture.

Lieberman backs waterboarding; ‘It’s not like we’re burning people with hot coals’

Connecticut Post, Press conference

Memo to Senator Joe Lieberman; to paraphrase the American poet, Gertrude Stein, « torture is torture is torture », period, end of discussion, whether it is physical or psychological.

And sir, if you are unclear that this practice is torture, I suggest you volunteer to have the procedure done to yourself at one of the US’s « black sites », or perhaps at Gitmo.

Additionally, this form of torture can lead to death; ask any scholar of the Inquisition. Or the Nazis.

As a final note, the question is not whether waterboarding is torture or not, but whether it is cruel and unusual punishment, which is prohibited by the 8th Amendment to the Constitution. The question is whether forced confessions are self-incrimination, which is prohibited under the 5th Amendment to the Constitution.

Troops suspected of abusing Palestinian teens

According to the female soldier, the two Palestinian detainees were beat up while they were handcuffed and after their eyes were covered. The soldier, who witnessed some of the abuse, said that the troops kicked the Palestinians, hit them using hand restraints, and swore at them. The evidence submitted to the court includes a testimony that charges the soldiers with placing a heater against the face of one of the boys.

Tasers Don’t Reduce Shootings, Despite Police and Politicians’ Claims

Statistics obtained by the Canadian Press bear out that idea, showing that in some of the cities that have recently adopted Tasers, the number of police shootings has remained fairly consistent and low, while Tasers are being used exponentially more often.

Taser: Police brutality with all the modern improvements.

UK: Now police are told they can use Taser guns on childrenl

The Government scientists were also asked to test whether the weapons could cause a miscarriage if used on a pregnant woman.

While not saying whether police would be allowed to Taser an expectant mother, the Home Office said the DSAC committee had « specifically asked » for computer simulations to be carried out to analyse the effect on « a pregnant female ».

Pregnant women and children need to be protected, not tasered.

We somehow used to understand how to deal with unruly kid behavior without potentially killing them.

A society which decides that it’s OK to potentially kill kids and/or pregnant women is both lost, and doomed not to survive.

Blackwater contract in Iraq renewed for one year

The US State Department said Friday it is extending its diplomat protection contract for private security firm Blackwater USA, despite the incident last September in which Blackwater guards killed 17 Iraqi civilians.

Foreign security companies at present are not subject to Iraq law, but at the same time are not governed by US military tribunals, allowing them to operate without any repercussions for their actions.

Imagine my complete (lack of) surprise.

The firm which is answerable to no one, except the state department, gets an extension of its contract.

And it gets this extension even though it has clearly demonstrated a complete lack of restraint in its behavior in Iraq.

Discovery Channel Drops Plans To Air ‘Taxi To The Dark Side’ Because It Is Too ‘Controversial’

Taxi to the Dark Side, a documentary about an innocent Afghan taxi driver tortured to death by U.S. officials at Bagram Air Base, has received wide critical acclaim since its debut in April at the Tribeca Film Festival. The New York Times’s A.O. Scott said, “If recent American history is ever going to be discussed with the necessary clarity and ethical rigor, this film will be essential.”

Apparently, telling the truth about what this country does has become a crime.

So the powers that be will simply make absolutely certain that most of the general public, (which needs to see what is being done in their names and with their tax dollars) will never see this documentary.

Who leaked the details of a CIA-Mossad plot against Iran?

The Bush administration is prolonging the hunting season against journalists. The latest victim is James Risen, The New York Times reporter for national security and intelligence affairs. About three months ago, a federal grand jury issued a subpoena against him, ordering Risen to give evidence in court. A heavy blackout has been imposed on the affair, with the only hint being that it has to do with sensitive matters of « national security. »

Operation Merlin

However, Operation Merlin, which was so creative and original, failed because of CIA bungled planning. The false information inserted into the blueprints were too obvious and too easily detected and the Russian engineer discovered them. As planned, he made contact with the Iranian delegation to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna and handed over to them, also as planned, the blueprints.

But contrary to the CIA’s intention, he added a letter to the blueprints in which he pointed out the mistakes. He did not do this with ill intent or out of a desire to disrupt the operation and harm his operators. On the contrary, he did so out of a deep sense of mission and in order to satisfy his American operators. He hoped that in this way he would simply increase the Iranians’ trust in him and encourage them to make contact with him for the good, of course, of his American operators.

The result was disastrous. Not only did the CIA fail to prevent the Iranians in their efforts to enhance their nuclear program, this operation may also have made it possible for them to get their hands on a plan for assembling a nuclear warhead.

Freedom of the press

Risen is not the first journalist to have been subpoenaed to give evidence before a grand jury and reveal his sources. According to the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, some 65 journalists have been summoned for such investigations since 2001. Some agreed, cooperated and testified. Most refused, so that they would not have to reveal their sources. In this way, they exposed themselves to being charged with contempt of court.

The Guardian,

Facebook has 59 million users – and 2 million new ones join each week. But you won’t catch Tom Hodgkinson volunteering his personal information – not now that he knows the politics of the people behind the social networking site

Although the project was initially conceived by media cover star Mark Zuckerberg, the real face behind Facebook is the 40-year-old Silicon Valley venture capitalist and futurist philosopher Peter Thiel. There are only three board members on Facebook, and they are Thiel, Zuckerberg and a third investor called Jim Breyer from a venture capital firm called Accel Partners (more on him later). Thiel invested $500,000 in Facebook when Harvard students Zuckerberg, Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskowitz went to meet him in San Francisco in June 2004, soon after they had launched the site. Thiel now reportedly owns 7% of Facebook, which, at Facebook’s current valuation of $15bn, would be worth more than $1bn. There is much debate on who exactly were the original co-founders of Facebook, but whoever they were, Zuckerberg is the only one left on the board, although Hughes and Moskowitz still work for the company.

Thiel is widely regarded in Silicon Valley and in the US venture capital scene as a libertarian genius. He is the co-founder and CEO of the virtual banking system PayPal, which he sold to Ebay for $1.5bn, taking $55m for himself. He also runs a £3bn hedge fund called Clarium Capital Management and a venture capital fund called Founders Fund. Bloomberg Markets magazine recently called him « one of the most successful hedge fund managers in the country ».

The third board member of Facebook is Jim Breyer. He is a partner in the venture capital firm Accel Partners, who put $12.7m into Facebook in April 2005. On the board of such US giants as Wal-Mart and Marvel Entertainment, he is also a former chairman of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). Now these are the people who are really making things happen in America, because they invest in the new young talent, the Zuckerbergs and the like. Facebook’s most recent round of funding was led by a company called Greylock Venture Capital, who put in the sum of $27.5m. One of Greylock’s senior partners is called Howard Cox, another former chairman of the NVCA, who is also on the board of In-Q-Tel. What’s In-Q-Tel? Well, believe it or not (and check out their website), this is the venture-capital wing of the CIA. After 9/11, the US intelligence community became so excited by the possibilities of new technology and the innovations being made in the private sector, that in 1999 they set up their own venture capital fund, In-Q-Tel, which « identifies and partners with companies developing cutting-edge technologies to help deliver these solutions to the Central Intelligence Agency and the broader US Intelligence Community (IC) to further their missions ».

The US defence department and the CIA love technology because it makes spying easier. « We need to find new ways to deter new adversaries, » defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in 2003. « We need to make the leap into the information age, which is the critical foundation of our transformation efforts. » In-Q-Tel’s first chairman was Gilman Louie, who served on the board of the NVCA with Breyer. Another key figure in the In-Q-Tel team is Anita K Jones, former director of defence research and engineering for the US department of defence, and – with Breyer – board member of BBN Technologies. When she left the US department of defence, Senator Chuck Robb paid her the following tribute: « She brought the technology and operational military communities together to design detailed plans to sustain US dominance on the battlefield into the next century. »

Now even if you don’t buy the idea that Facebook is some kind of extension of the American imperialist programme crossed with a massive information-gathering tool, there is no way of denying that as a business, it is pure mega-genius. Some net nerds have suggsted that its $15bn valuation is excessive, but I would argue that if anything that is too modest. Its scale really is dizzying, and the potential for growth is virtually limitless. « We want everyone to be able to use Facebook, » says the impersonal voice of Big Brother on the website. I’ll bet they do. It is Facebook’s enormous potential that led Microsoft to buy 1.6% for $240m. A recent rumour says that Asian investor Lee Ka-Shing, said to be the ninth richest man in the world, has bought 0.4% of Facebook for $60m.

The creators of the site need do very little bar fiddle with the programme. In the main, they simply sit back and watch as millions of Facebook addicts voluntarily upload their ID details, photographs and lists of their favourite consumer objects. Once in receipt of this vast database of human beings, Facebook then simply has to sell the information back to advertisers, or, as Zuckerberg puts it in a recent blog post, « to try to help people share information with their friends about things they do on the web ». And indeed, this is precisely what’s happening. On November 6 last year, Facebook announced that 12 global brands had climbed on board. They included Coca-Cola, Blockbuster, Verizon, Sony Pictures and Condé Nast. All trained in marketing bullshit of the highest order, their representatives made excited comments along the following lines:

« With Facebook Ads, our brands can become a part of the way users communicate and interact on Facebook, » said Carol Kruse, vice president, global interactive marketing, the Coca-Cola Company.

« We view this as an innovative way to cultivate relationships with millions of Facebook users by enabling them to interact with Blockbuster in convenient, relevant and entertaining ways, » said Jim Keyes, Blockbuster chairman and CEO. « This is beyond creating advertising impressions. This is about Blockbuster participating in the community of the consumer so that, in return, consumers feel motivated to share the benefits of our brand with their friends. »

« Share » is Facebookspeak for « advertise ». Sign up to Facebook and you become a free walking, talking advert for Blockbuster or Coke, extolling the virtues of these brands to your friends. We are seeing the commodification of human relationships, the extraction of capitalistic value from friendships.

Update on World War III

The final phase or aftermath of WW III is the destruction of the United States so what remains can be folded into the North American Union. The Iranian response to the Israeli air strike will include the cut off of all oil from the Persian Gulf which should raise the price of oil to $300 or $400 a barrel. That would bankrupt more than 50% of all American families as they would have no means of buying gas to get to work. The destruction of the dollar will make food unaffordable too. »

Heads-up Canadians! Under the rubric of « Child Porn » Canada will now allow warrantless searches of your computers and internet traffic. They may find some child porn (although I am starting to wonder how much child porn is planted by the government to justify the suspension of warrants), but rest assured they will be giving equal if not greater attention to intellectual property theft, and if Canada’s RCMP is anything like the FBI, stealing your business information with which to engage in a little insider trading.

CIA chief to drag White House into torture cover-up storm

THE CIA chief who ordered the destruction of secret videotapes recording the harsh interrogation of two top Al-Qaeda suspects has indicated he may seek immunity from prosecution in exchange for testifying before the House intelligence committee.

Jose Rodriguez, former head of the CIA’s clandestine service, is determined not to become the fall guy in the controversy over the CIA’s use of torture, according to intelligence sources.

The torture tape fingering Bush as a war criminal The torture tape fingering Bush as a war criminal

he Washington Post reported that “current and former officials” said the torture lasted weeks and even, according to some, months, and that the techniques included hypothermia, long periods of standing, sleep deprivation and multiple sessions of waterboarding. All these “alternative procedures”, as Bush described them, are illegal under US law and the Geneva conventions. They are, in fact, war crimes. And they were once all treated by the US as war crimes when they were perpetrated by the Nazis. Waterboarding has been found to be a form of torture in various American legal cases.

Hundreds of hours of videotape were recorded of Zubaydah’s incarceration and torture. That evidence would settle the dispute over the extremely serious question of whether the president of the United States authorised war crimes.

And now we have found out that all the tapes have been destroyed.

Bush administration moves to block inquiries into CIA’s destruction of torture tapes

The Bush administration has taken aggressive steps to undermine congressional and judicial inquiries into the CIA’s destruction of videotapes showing the torture of at least two prisoners. The move is only the latest demonstration of the administration’s lawlessness and contempt for democratic and constitutional norms.

Congress will defy Justice Dept. on destroyed CIA tapes; Harman: ‘We’re in Constitutional crisis’

Despite the Justice Department’s objections, a Congressional panel will press ahead with its investigation into destroyed CIA interrogation tapes, according to a key Republican on the panel.

« I think we will issue subpoenas, » said Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI), the House Intelligence Committee’s ranking Republican, on Fox News Sunday (video below). « And once these witness appear in front of the committee, then I think we’ll have to make the decision as to whether we’re going to provide them with immunity or not. But our investigation should move forward. »

It will be interesting to see just how far this panel gets with their subpoenas, and what they are really willing to do if the CIA refuses to respond.

My guess would be more sound and fury (as has been the case with Waxman) signifying……not one heck of a lot.

New Attorney General stonewalls Senate over CIA tapes

Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy said Friday he is disappointed at the Justice Department for its outright refusal to hand over any information about the interrogation videotapes destroyed by the CIA two years ago.

Memo to Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy: stop wringing your hands and stomping your feet on this.

You’re the folks who confirmed this guy, even when he appeared unable to state whether water boarding was actually torture.

You kicked the wheels, sat behind the steering wheel, and took this man’s judicial convictions for a spin.

You knew precisely what you were getting with Mucasey, and now you’re experiencing « buyer’s remorse »?

What you and your fellow Senators appear not to have the male attributes to do is subpoena the guy, and if he refuses, hit him with a Contempt of Congress charge.

But the spineless 110th congress just seems to collectively snivel, stomp their feet like cranky two year olds, and do…..absolutely nothing.

It was the first time the government had addressed the issue of the videotapes in court.

This destruction of the tapes has nothing to do with the safety of the interrogators: it had everything to do with preventing thinking American citizens to witness what was – and still is – done with their tax dollars and in their name.

Guantanamo operating manual posted on Internet

(Reuters) – The U.S. military’s operating manual for the Guantanamo prison camp has been posted on the Internet, providing a glimpse of the broad rules and tiniest minutia for detaining suspected terrorists.

The 238-page manual, « Standard Operating Procedures for Camp Delta, » is dated March 27, 2003, and signed by Army Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller, who was then the commander of the prison that still holds about 300 al Qaeda and Taliban suspects.

It appears to be an authentic copy of the rules as they existed at the time at the U.S. naval base in Cuba, a spokesman for the Guantanamo detention operation, Lt. Col. Ed Bush, said on Wednesday.

It says incoming prisoners are to be held in near-isolation for the first two weeks to foster dependence on interrogators and « enhance and exploit the disorientation and disorganization felt by a newly arrived detainee in the interrogation process. »

Hersh: children raped at Abu Ghraib, Pentagon has videos

» Some of the worst things that happened you don’t know about, okay? Videos, um, there are women there. Some of you may have read that they were passing letters out, communications out to their men. This is at Abu Ghraib … The women were passing messages out saying ‘Please come and kill me, because of what’s happened’ and basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys, children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst above all of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror. It’s going to come out. »

Ex-CIA Agent: Waterboarding OK’ed at Top

At the White House, press secretary Dana Perino said the CIA interrogation program approved by the president is safe, tough, effective and legal. But she said that Hayden will not « talk about techniques and explain to the enemy what we are doing » during two days of questioning before closed sessions of the Senate and House intelligence panels.

« It’s no secret that the president approved a lawful program in order to interrogate hardened terrorists, » Perino said. « We do not torture. We also know that this program has saved lives by disrupting terrorist attacks. »

Memo to Dana Perino: the US does torture: let’s just get that straight.

And if, Ms. Perino, you do not believe that waterboarding is torture, you might ask to observe the process at Gitmo. That just might give you some insight as to what the process actually entails.

UK Guantanamo detainee near suicide after years of torture, doctors warn

Mr Mohamed was born in Ethiopia and came to Britain in 1994, where he lived for seven years, sought political asylum and was given leave to remain while his case was resolved. But while travelling he was arrested in Pakistan on a visa violation and turned over to the US authorities. On 21 July 2002 Mr Mohamed was rendered to Morocco on a CIA plane. His lawyers claim he has endured years of torture in which has been physically abused, including having his genitals cut with a razor blade.

Mr Stafford Smith said: « Once he got to Guantanamo Bay, far from receiving the palliative care that this history of torture would call for, he has faced on-going mistreatment –held in solitary confinement in a Supermax prison, physically abused, and deprived of any meaningful treatment. Please do not let the US military public relations delude anybody, as the prison he is in is harsher than any of the many Death Row prisons I have visited in the past 25 years. »

We cannot torture, then collectively turn to the world with straight face and talk about the high moral value of human rights.

These practices undermine precisely what this country is supposed to stand for.

Additionally, it will take decades to undo the damage to America’s reputation abroad.

In the long-ranging article, which seemingly takes the lawmakers and the Bush Administration to task by discussing the practice’s emergence in Nazi Germany and other totalitarian states, a Pelosi aide said the Speaker remembered discussion of « enhanced » interrogation techniques and « acknowledged that Pelosi did not raise objections at the time. »

We’ve only got one party in congress right now: it’s called the « War Party ».

House speaker undermines Democrats’ fight against torture

Few serious observers of Congress would deny that Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been a disappointing leader for House Democrats. But now she appears to be something more troubling: a serious hindrance to the fight against the use of crude and objectionable torture techniques.

Smoking Laptop Follies

Some details of that alleged program, obtained from the hard-drive of a laptop computer, allegedly stolen in Iran in 2004, had been supplied to us a few months later, apparently by the same wonderful folks who had earlier supplied us the « intelligence » on Iraq, obtained by them from « Curveball. »

Now, a cynic, like Ebenezer Scrooge, might be forgiven for wondering who had provided us that « smoking laptop » – containing details of what we now are told were already abandoned activities – and why.

The entire claim that Iran was building nuclear weapons rests on a laptop provided by a dubious source.

Waterboarding was a technique popular with the Nazis and the (Un)Holy Inquisition. Doesn’t sound like it is all that benign, does it?

Torture, Destruction of Evidence, Obstruction of Justice–Just a Typical Day in the Bush Administration

Let’s be frank here. The recent discovery of documents related to the torture videotapes that were destoyed is old news, not new. The fact is that since 2001, our government has tortured, lied about the torture, and destroyed court ordered evidence and documents of the torture. In other words, they’ve done everything they can to cover their own asses.

Fox News ‘Comedian’ Declares ‘Waterboarding: It’s A Good Thing’

In a FoxNews.com column, Greg Gutfeld — host of Fox’s 2 a.m. “dark humor” news show you’ve never heard of — writes this “comedic” defense of waterboarding: Now, waterboarding might be torture, but as long as people I hate also hate waterboarding, then I love it more than life itself. … So I cherish waterboarding. I want to make it our national sport, our national bird. I want to make the waterboard the state flower of Vermont, instead of the Birkenstock.

1. Enhanced driver's licenses in Manitoba coming fall 2008 This means
tracking devices and/or massive amounts of all your personal data
imprinted on it. A "show your papers" step.

2. Continental Trade corridor running from Port Churchill through
the United States to Mexico. This is the NAFTA superhighway we have
been warning about which media and all politicians have denied.

3. A North American Alliance between business, state and city The
project has been in the works for 15 years.

4. An inland port in Winnipeg Manitoba with pre clearance in shipping.

Another example of perfidy and intentional
erroneous impression that has had little publicity in Canada, is as
 follows:

The Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba welcomed the
second session of the 39th Legislative Assembly
on November 20th, 2007. Reading from the Throne
Speech of the Gary Doer government he said,"
Manitoba is also taking a major role in the
development of the mid-continent corridor
connecting our northern port of Churchill with
trade markets throughout the central United
States and Mexico… to advance the concept an
alliance has been built with business leaders and
state and city governments spanning the entire
length of the corridor. When fully developed the
trade route will incorporate an inland port in
Winnipeg with pre-clearance for international shipping."

In other words he blew the whistle, he made an
official definitive statement re the actuality
and ratification of the SPP and the emergence of
the North American Union, organized entirely by
tub-thumping government committees and private
enterprise slicksters, while Canadian citizens
are denied information to which they are
entitled.

The north americain trade corridors

http://fina-nafi.org/eng/integ/corridors.asp?langue=eng=integ

Following the implementation of NAFTA, coalitions of interest have been formed in order to promote specific transport channels, to develop the infrastructures of these channels and to propose jurisdictional amendments to facilitate the crossing of borders. These coalitions include businesses, government agencies, civil organizations, metropolitan areas, rural communities and also individuals, wishing to strengthen the commercial hubs of their regions.

The North American trade corridors are bi- or tri-national channels for which various cross-border interests have grouped together in order to develop or consolidate the infrastructures. The North American corridors are considered multimodal in the sense that they bring into play different modes of transport in succession.

The infrastructures may include roads, highways, transit routes, airports, pipelines, railways and train stations, river canal systems and port facilities, telecommunications networks and teleports.

Angry migrant underclass might erupt in U.S.

The rapid escalation of the U.S. anti-immigration hysteria — fueled by ratings-hungry cable-television hotheads and leading Republican presidential hopefuls — is a dangerous trend: It may lead to a Hispanic intifada that may rock this nation in the not-so-distant future.

This is a misuse of the word, « Intifada ». The Intifada is a fight by the citizens of an occupied country against an invader. In this case, the illegals are the invaders, albeit covert ones. If this not-very-subtle threat was carried out, there will be little sympathy for them.

Bush Stealthily Authorizes Full Access to U.S. Roads for Even More Mexico-Based NAFTA Trucks

The last time the Bush administration made a public announcement about the number of Mexico-based carriers allowed to participate in the NAFTA trucks pilot program, there were only three carriers.

It has long been the tradition by this administration to bury bad news like this by sending out press releases on Friday afternoon, but in this case, the Department of Transportation (DOT) reached a new low: not sending any press release at all, but simply updating a Web page.

We have no idea if there is anything approximating a safety inspection of these vehicles, or if there is, what it entails

And can the drivers speak English well enough to comply with road signs and speed limits?

http://www.centpapiers.com/New-Jersey-abolition-de-la-peine,2599

The Skeptical Camp Emerges on Irans Nuclear Ambitions

« Opinions » have absolutely nothing to do with the facts as presented by this National Intelligence Estimate « …with the authority of 16 American spy agencies in agreement that Iran halted its nuclear arms effort in 2003, a conclusion meant to “ensure that an accurate presentation is available.”

The bottom line is, this administration has absolutely nothing with which to « sell » a war against Iran as legitimate, period, end of discussion.

US officials say Iran nuclear weapons program stopped in 2003

This is getting played all over the mainstream media.

At the risk of being prematurely jubilant, it looks like the invasion of Iran has just been canceled!

There is still the possibility of a lone nut head-of-state trying to restart the wars with a false-flag attack, but right now, it looks like the war wagon just ran off the road to Tehran!

THE NEOCONS ARE IN A FRENZY OVER THE NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE ESTIMATE REPORT: THEY THINK IT’S A C.I.A. PLOT AGAINST BUSH!

The same people who bitch and moan at 9-11 « conspiracy theories » are claiming they are the victims of a conspiracy.

Israel considering strike on Iran despite US intelligence report

« We didn’t buy and blackmail the entire US Government just to quit now, dammit »

Like Iraq, US intel on Iran faulty

In both the cases of Iraq and now Iran, Administration leaders (who generally don’t have their kids in the military) were banging the drums of war with their lies so hard it’s a wonder their hands didn’t fall off in the process.

The case for war cannot now be « sold » either to the American people, or to the world.

And the issue of further UN sanctions is now a non-starter.

‘US report should not deter world’ | Jerusalem Post

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that Iran was continuing in its efforts to produce a nuclear bomb despite the report. According to the minister, Iran had indeed stopped its program four years ago but has since renewed it.

Looks like « Big Lie » Barak got caught unawares on this one, and continues to lie not only to his own people, but to the world, regarding Iran’s ambition.

Hey, Ehud, I’ve got a proposition for you; if you feel that Iran is such an existential threat to the existence of Israel, why doesn’t Israel go in on its own, and bomb the heck out of it?

There’s just one little detail, however, to which you just might want to pay attention.

Russia has stated clearly that an attack on Iran will be interpreted as an attack on Russia.

Let’s see…..an Israeli war with Russia, now just how would that play out??

Israel considering strike on Iran despite US intelligence report

Senior Israeli officials warned today they were still considering the option of a military strike against Iran, despite a fresh US intelligence report that concluded Tehran was no longer developing nuclear weapons.

Remember, Bush has already committed the United States (that means YOUR kids, not his own) to « defend » Israel in the event of wars, INCLUDING WARS THAT ISRAEL STARTS.

Israel warns Iran to co-operate or pay price

Israel has warned Iran to either co-operate with the West over its uranium enrichment program or face military action.

Just another reminder who is really behind the push for war.

There is a saying that the fastest way to get a dog to stop chasing cars is to let him catch one. So, I am in favor of Israel invading Iran. Of course, I am opposed to the US stepping in to save Israel from its own folly, and with Bush’s and the NeoCon’s credibility in the toilet (sorry ‘Al Qaeda’) nobody but the Israel-firsters will support US involvement in Israel’s wars (and as far as I am concerned the Israel-Firsters should be first to go). With the current pubic mood, exacerbated by the absolute shamelessness and complete lack of repentance at having been caught yet again lying to start a war, the first politician that stands up to support sending you sons and daughters to die in a a Israel starts will find themselves skinned, dipped in turpentine, and finished with a thick coat of tar and feathers.

The bottom line: Under the terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which Iran and the US BUT NOT ISRAEL have signed, Iran has a legal right to enrich uranium to the 3% enrichment needed to fuel their power station. Under the NPT, the US has no legal grounds to demand that Iran stop. Israel, which has not signed the NNPT, which is building nuclear weapons in a no-longer-clandestine laboratory underneath Dimona, is in essence saying to Iran, do what we want or we will have the Americans kill you.

Israel, backed by the American « Big Brother », has become the neighborhood bully in the Mideast. And we know there is only one way a bully ever stops being a bully.

Bush insists Iran poses danger, despite report

US Wins Support for New Pressure on Iran

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice won support from European allies Thursday for new U.N. sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.

NATO foreign ministers agreed to stay the course in seeking fresh measures at the United Nations to persuade Iran to stop uranium enrichment and reprocessing despite a new U.S. intelligence report that concluded the country halted it nuclear weapons ambitions in 2003.

Rice probably offered them a bigger slice of the plunder to get them to agree to this.

JUST A REMINDER: Under the terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which the United States, the nuclear members of NATO, and Iran have signed, Iran has a legal right to enrich uranium for their power plant. It is the US and NATO who are in violation of that treaty, and all because little paranoid Israel, which really HAS been building nuclear weapons in a secret plant underneath the Dimona reactor, cannot accept that Iran has not been as deceitful and duplicitous as Israel.

*** Bush Drops Standard on Iran as Credibility Questioned

President George W. Bush, his credibility under fire because of intelligence that Iran halted its nuclear weapons drive in 2003, adopted a new argument yesterday to justify tougher sanctions: Just knowing how to produce a bomb is dangerous.

Lavrov: There Is No Proof That Iran Ever Had a Nuclear Program

December 5, 2007 LPAC–The recently released National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report, which has sent a cat among Cheney’s killer pigeons, claims Iran has abandoned its nuclear program some time in 2003. However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who met with Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili this week, said Dec.5 there was no proof Iran ever had a weapons program, as claimed in the U.S. report. In Tehran, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini dismissed the U.S. report that said Tehran pursued nuclear weapons up to 2003.

Lavrov said Russia supports Iran’s determination to cooperate with the IAEA, and that Russian President Vladimir Putin this week urged Iran to answer all IAEA questions and suspend enrichment. Acting Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov last September told visiting French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner that neither military force nor unilateral sanctions were acceptable in dealing with Iran’s nuclear program.

Well then, I guess Bill Clinton shouldn’t have given Iran the blueprints for a nuclear weapon!

http://www.nationalledger.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?archive=1&num=4940

Folks, everyone knows how to kill their neighbor. But we don’t kill people for knowing how to kill. We kill then when they actually try to do it.

The same applies here. Pretty much everyone knows how to build a nuclear weapon. Even I have a pretty good grasp of the basic principles. Under Bush’s new policy of invading nations for simply knowing how to build a nuclear weapon, every nation on Earth is now a target.

It is time to face facts. Bush is a danger to the United States and to the world. Congress is a danger to the United States and to the world for not dealing with him.

Last night, radio talk show host and former US Justice Department official Mark Levin shocked many listeners when he reported that President Bill Clinton gave nuclear technology to the Iranians in a harebrained scheme.

He said that the transfer of classified data to Iran was personally approved by then-President Clinton and that the CIA deliberately gave Iranian physicists blueprints for part of a nuclear bomb that likely helped Tehran advance its nuclear weapons development program.

The CIA, using a double-agent Russian scientist, handed a blueprint for a nuclear bomb to Iran, according to a new book « State of War » by James Risen, the New York Times reporter, who exposed the Bush administration’s controversial NSA spying operation, claims the plans contained fatal flaws designed to derail Tehran’s nuclear drive.

But the deliberate errors were so rudimentary they would have been easily fixed by sophisticated Russian nuclear scientists, the book said.

The operation, which took place during the Clinton administration in early 2000, was code named Operation Merlin and « may have been one of the most reckless operations in the modern history of the CIA, » according to Risen.

It called for the unnamed scientist, a defector from the Soviet Union, to offer Iran the blueprint for a « firing set » — the intricate mechanism which triggers the chain reaction needed for a nuclear explosion.

The Russian was told by CIA officers that the Iranians already had the technology detailed in the plans and that the ruse was simply an attempt by the agency to find out the full scope of Tehran’s nuclear knowledge.

But, contrary to orders not to open the packet, he added a note which made it clear he could help fix the flaws for money.

Risen states in his book, « It’s not clear who originally came up with the idea, but the plan [to give Tehran nuclear blueprints] was first approved by Clinton. »

This is just another chapter in the Bill Clinton saga of giving weapons technology to enemies of the United States. He’s provided missile technology to the Chinese, which increased the accuracy of their ballistic missiles, and he provided nuclear technology to the North Koreans that eventually enabled them to develop nuclear weapons.

Risen said the Clinton-approved plan ended up handing Tehran « one of the greatest engineering secrets in the world, providing the solution to one of a handful of problems that separated nuclear powers such as the United States and Russia from rogue countries such as Iran that were desperate to join the nuclear club but had so far fallen short. »

Mark Levin, director of the Landmark Legal Foundation, said that thanks to Clinton Iran was able to « leapfrog one of the last remaining engineering hurdles blocking its path to a nuclear weapon. »

Ironically, Risen’s New York Times has declined to cover Mr. Clinton’s Iranian nuclear debacle — concentrating instead on his book’s dubious claims that the National Security Agency was first authorized to commence domestic wiretapping by President Bush, according to NewsMax and Levin.

NewsMax stated that Risen’s report could also have a serious implications for Sen. Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign. Mrs. Clinton has been sharply critical of President Bush’s handling of the Iranian nuclear crisis, complaining that a nuclear-armed Tehran would be a much more serious threat to the US than Iraq. However, NewsMax may be proven wrong about Sen. Clinton if the news media continue to ignore this story.

« Don’t hold your breath waiting for the elite media to create a frenzy over this story. They will never hurt either Clintons with such a damning report, » says former intelligence officer Sid Francis.

War critics astonished as US hawk admits invasion was illegal

International lawyers and anti-war campaigners reacted with astonishment yesterday after the influential Pentagon hawk Richard Perle conceded that the invasion of Iraq had been illegal.

So is lying to Congress, which Bush did when he claimed Iraq was in violation of UN Resolutions by being in possession of banned weapons.

Perle’s attitude towards international law smacks of the « True Believer », someone who truly believes they know what’s best for the country and that this justifies ignoring the laws. Such arrogance has landed this nation in trouble many times before, and Perle is clearly of that same mindset.

No Iran Attack? Don’t Be So Sure…

The release of the National Intelligence Estimate on Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program has everyone breathing a sigh of relief.

Before we segue into all the reasons why we shouldn’t be letting our guard down, however, let’s take a moment or three to savor the War Party’s distress. This morning’s edition of National Review Online is a veritable cornucopia of spittle-on-the-screen invective. There’s a whole section devoted to debunking the debunkers, and each and every article is a study in sophistry elevated almost to an art form.

Michael Ledeen avers that since « you can’t prove a negative, » the NIE is wrong. Thus, there is no need for any empirical evidence, since, after all, you can’t be 100 percent certain, so Iran is guilty as a given. And weren’t these the same guys who thought Iraq had WMD? What Ledeen fails to mention is that he and his gang agreed with that assessment, but in the solipsistic universe of the neocons, a different set of rules applies.

Keep in mind that Michael Ledeen was identified by the Italian Parliament as one of the forgers who created the fake documents used to « prove » that Iraq was buying uranium ore from Niger.

Man opens fire at Omaha mall, killing 8

And JUST in time to get the mainstream media off of Bush’s lies about Iran’s nuclear weapons!

Cafferty: White House Illegally Deleted Over TEN MILLION e-mails

Cafferty: A government watchdog group now says more than 10 million White House emails are missing. Citizens for the Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) described this massive hole in White House email records last April. At that time they thought the number was 5 million – Now they say it is more than 10 million emails. In one of the great understatements of this here Christmas season, the group says that this revised estimate – quote – highlights that this is a very serious and systematic problem at the White House – unquote. Both CREW and another private group called the National Security archive are suing the Bush administration to try to get information about all these missing emails. The White House email problems first came to light during special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation into the leak of CIA officer Valerie Plame’s identity.

http://www.courrierint.com/article.asp?obj_id=80516

C.I.A. Destroyed 2 Tapes Showing Interrogations

The videotapes showed agency operatives in 2002 subjecting terrorism suspects — including Abu Zubaydah, the first detainee in C.I.A. custody — to severe interrogation techniques. The tapes were destroyed in part because officers were concerned that video showing harsh interrogation methods could expose agency officials to legal risks, several officials said.

Which essentially admits that the CIA was engaged in illegal methods, i.e. torture, of these individuals.

As detailed below, these particular tapes are the ones it is claimed proof that Al Qaeda was behind 9-11. These tapes are ow gone, so we only have the government’s worthless word what they contained. But more importantly, it confirms that the official declaration of who was behind 9-11 was never based on facts, but on coerced confessions.

« Evidence linking these Israelis to 9/11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It’s classified information. » — US official quoted in Carl Cameron’s Fox News report on the Israeli spy ring and its connections to 9-11.

More Evidence of Obstruction of Justice in 9/11 Investigation

By now you’ve heard that the CIA destroyed videotapes of interrogations of alleged Al Qaeda members. The interesting part of this story is that the 9/11 Commission claimed that it obtained most of its information about the attacks from these interrogations (and then only indirectly as reported by the military to the Commission).

If the official story of 9-11 is accurate, then why has so much of the evidence been destroyed?

Iran stops selling oil in U.S. dollars -report

Iran has completely stopped selling any of its oil for U.S. dollars, an Iranian news agency reported on Saturday, citing the oil minister of the world’s fourth-largest crude producer.

The dollar will take a major hit from this. As more nations switch to the Euro, foreign demand for dollars will drop, and that demand was propping up the already-weak dollar.

Iran just kicked out the prop. And nobody will blame them after confirmation that President Bush knowingly lied about Iran’s nuclear capability to try to start another war.

Thanks a whole bunch, Dubya. We The People continue to take it in the teeth for the favors you do for your Neocon masters.

ISRAELI MINISTER CANCELS LONDON TRIP ON WAR CRIMES ARREST FEARS

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Israeli Public Security Minister Avi Dichter has cancelled a trip to Britain over concerns he could be arrested on war crimes allegations, his spokesman said on Thursday.

As head of Israel’s Shin Beth internal intelligence agency, Dichter was involved in the 2002 Israeli attack in Gaza in which an Israeli warplane dropped a one-tonne bomb on the house of the head of Hamas’s military wing, Salah Shehade, killing him, his bodyguard and 15 civilians, many of them children.

Gaza Strip hospitals face « humanitarian disaster »

Hospitals in the Gaza Strip have been forced to shut down their emergency power generators, resulting in a looming « humanitarian disaster » due to Israel’s severe reductions in fuel supplies, said Muawiya Hassanein, the director of ambulance and emergency services in the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Ethnic cleansing, one sick Gazan at a time: the Israeli government officials who cooked this one up have got to be very proud of themselves.

We have a very series shortage of diesel in the ministry of Health
the majority of the 11 hospitals of MOH do suffer from a shortage of fuel, the same is for the 52 primary health care clinics and vehicles.

I am not speaking now about the consequences but they are catastrophic and include the transportation defect which will not enable the employees of the Ministry to go to their hospitals.

Please. We urge you to help us by applying any sort of pressure that could let the Israelis change their mind about this fatal action that would threaten the lives of thousands of civilians in the already under siege Gaza.

Eight water wells stopped operating in Gaza

The popular anti-sanctions committee warned that eight water wells stopped pumping in different districts of the Gaza Strip as a result of reducing the amount of fuel supplied by Israel.

It appealed to the concerned international organizations and friends of the Palestinian people to intervene to save the Strip from a looming disaster.

In a press release received by the PIC on Monday, the committee stated that the stop of these wells heralds environmental and human disaster in the Gaza Strip, noting that one of those pumps was used in dispensing sewage.

As a result of the Israeli decision to slash fuel supplies to Gaza, most of Gaza fuel stations closed down on Monday and all traffic came to a halt in the Gaza streets, besides the Gaza hospitals are threatened with depletion of their remaining fuel.

Meanwhile, the oil companies in Gaza still refuse to receive their share of fuel supplies, because it was shrunk to a quarter by the Israeli government.

In this regard, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights appealed to the international community, the UN and humanitarian organizations to intervene immediately to pressure the IOA to stop its arbitrary resolution to slash fuel supplies to the Gaza residents, in order to avert a humanitarian disaster in the Strip.

The Israeli supreme court ratified a decision tabled by the Israeli government to reduce the amount of fuel supplies to the Gaza Strip.

For his part, Hasan Jabarin, the director of Adala (Justice) center in occupied Jerusalem, stated that the Israeli supreme court’s endorsement of the reduction resolution constitutes a grave violation of the principles of international humanitarian law.

When drinking water becomes infected with raw sewage that has not been processed, the outbreak of cholera is generally not far behind, as has been illustrated with the outbreaks of cholera in Iraq.

Taser

Hearing Impaired (half naked, wet and scared, innocent) Man Tased by Police

« Officers were worried about their own safety because at the time it appeared Williams was refusing to obey their commands to show his hands. »

Soooooooo, those poor policemen with their guns and Kevlar were terrified of a wet man in a towel who couldn’t hear them.

So they tasered him.

Fla. has 2nd Taser death in 2 days

Tasers: the next generation

The Taser is going wireless.

Until now, the electric-shock gun consisted of two barbed darts attached to wires that shoot out and strike the victim, immobilizing the person with 50,000 volts of electricity, causing severe pain and intense muscle contraction.

But the wires could only extend a few metres. With the new « extended range electronic projectile, » or XREP, the Taser has been turned into a kind of self-contained shotgun shell and can be fired, wire-free, from a standard shotgun, which police typically have in their arsenal already.

The first electrode hooks on to the target, the second electrode falls and makes contact elsewhere on the body, completing the circuit and activating the shock. It can blast someone as far as 30 metres away, and, unlike the current stun guns, whose shock lasts five seconds, the XREP lasts 20 seconds, enough time to « take the offender into custody without risking injury to officers. »

Tasers are now used by more than 11,000 law enforcement agencies in 44 countries. There are more than 428,000 Tasers in the field. Taser has sold more than 161,000 devices to civilians since 1994. (None in Canada. They’re not legal for civilians and won’t be shipped here.)

Tuttle says the technology will be used for military applications, « not for a riot in Toronto. »

Amnesty says that between 2001 and Sept. 30, 2007, there were more than 290 deaths of individuals struck by police Tasers in North America, including 16 in Canada. It reports that only 25 of those electroshocked were armed, and none with firearms. It’s calling for a moratorium on their use by police until a full, independent inquiry is held.

Facebook

Facebook tracks users even when they’re logged out, and without telling them

AP

Facebook has confirmed findings of a CA security researcher that the social-networking site’s Beacon ad service is more intrusive and stealthy than previously acknowledged, an admission that contradicts statements made previously by Facebook executives and representatives.

Stefan Berteau, senior research engineer at CA’s Threat Research Group, wrote in a note about Beacon’s until-then unknown ability to monitor logged-off users’ activities and send the data back to Facebook.

Users aren’t informed that data on their activities at these sites is flowing back to Facebook, nor given the option to block that information from being transmitted, according to Berteau.

Pentagon Poised To Resume Open Air Weapons Testing

Pentagon Appears Poised To Resume Open-Air Testing Of Biological Weapons But Says It Has Received No Presidential Directive To Break Moratorium

The Pentagon has denied President Bush issued a directive for it to resume open-air testing of chemical and biological warfare(CBW) agents that were halted by President Richard Nixon in 1969. Yet, the Pentagon’s stated preparations make it appear it is poised to do just that.

Framing The Truth Movement As Terrorists

A disturbing trend has emerged amongst establishment « news » hacks who are raising the same talking point ad infinitum, dubbing the global truth movement as « anarchists » and violent individuals who may be aiding terrorists, and praying for another attack in America so they can blame peaceful activists who are consistently putting the Neo-Cons to shame.

The bill to which these hearings are tied, H.R. 1955: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007, defines « violent radicalization » as « The process of adopting or promoting an extremist belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change. »

It further defines « homegrown terrorism » as « The use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives. »

The bill’s reference to how « The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens, » is shocking.

Senate Bill 1959 to Criminalize Thoughts, Blogs, Books and Free Speech Across America

The end of Free Speech in America has arrived at our doorstep. It’s a new law called the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, and it is worded in a clever way that could allow the U.S. government to arrest and incarcerate any individual who speaks out against the Bush Administration, the war on Iraq, the Department of Homeland Security or any government agency (including the FDA). The law has already passed the House on a traitorous vote of 405 to 6, and it is now being considered in the Senate where a vote is imminent. All over the internet, intelligent people who care about freedom are speaking out against this extremely dangerous law.

House Subcommittee Presentation Equates 9/11 Truth With Terrorism

The government is terrified that we are getting the truth out.

The New Inquisition Against 9/11 Truth »>The New Inquisition Against 9/11 Truth

« It has become painfully obvious that when Glenn Beck (a CNN host who recently said that Truthers were of the same ilk as Oklahoma City bomber, Timothy McVeigh) and a Homeland Security subcommittee do a smear job on Truthers they are doing so not because they are violent, or because their ideas are helping to recruit terrorists, but because they are threatening to the whole « War on Terror » agenda — an agenda foisted on us by the military industrial complex and their corporate sponsors.

Like in the Middle Ages, Beck and Harman are fulfilling the role of the Church’s Inquisitors by persecuting and prosecuting those who do not willingly submit to the « War on Terror » religion, which demands that we accept Osama bin Laden and « Islamofascists » as the Devil incarnate, and George W. Bush and the State as our personal Savior. According to Beck and Harman, If you lack the faith, and can’t quietly hold your tongue in your disbelief, then the state has no room for you in polite society. Off to Gitmo you go to get tortured and be redeemed by the fascist rod of righteousness. »

Ron Paul: Smear Attempts Reflect « Frightened, » « Insecure, » « Panicking » Establishment

Speaking about recent smear attempts on behalf of people like Glenn Beck, David Horowitz and Bill O’Reilly to link Ron Paul supporters with violence and Islamic terrorists, the Congressman himself said that the attacks were symptomatic of a frightened and insecure establishment who are dumbfounded that people are turning away from authoritarianism and embracing freedom.

NYPD tricking innocent people into committing nonexistent crimes, then charging them with felonies!

Find a wallet, go to jail? New York undercover cops have been leaving wallets and purses around in public spots in the city, then arresting anyone who picks them up and doesn’t present them to a nearby uniformed officer. Some arrestees have otherwise clean records and say they intended to use ID inside the bags to notify the rightful owners. Putting money inside the bags didn’t lead to serious enough charges, in the coppers’ view, so they began salting them with live American Express cards so that the finders could be charged with grand larceny, with four years behind bars.

Don’t these cops have real criminals to chase, like, say… a President who lied this nation into one war and got caught trying to lie us all into a second one?

NYPD Intelligence Division Officer: “We Are in the Business of Scaring People”

Obviously, I’m not suggesting that you should shoot these fascist pigs, because that would be a waste of your time and energy. The state will just mint more fascist pigs after it tortures and kills you for your effort.

The Virtues of a Disorganized Resistance

Organized resistance has many drawbacks. These drawbacks have seldom been discussed by the opposition. I believe that the only effective resistance is a completely disorganized, decentralized, and leaderless opposition.

What Antiwar Activists Have to Be Thankful For

The really good news is that a large majority of Americans not only oppose the Iraq war, but also are hopping mad that they were lied into initially supporting it. We all know how it’s a sin to be « angry, » in the neocon-Establishmentarian view of the world, a transgression for which Howard Dean paid with his candidacy, but, this year, it doesn’t look like that meme is going to work.

Hate gets a bad rap. But there are times when hate is a perfectly proper response to evil deeds, and rage can provide the energy needed to do what must be done.

So be pissed off. Be VERY pissed off. Nothing corrodes slave chains faster than anger.

Peace Group Barred From Florida Schools

« Dammit we’re trying to teach these kids that war is COOL! » — Official White Horse Souse

TAMPA, Florida, Dec 4 (IPS) – Public school districts in two Florida counties are refusing to allow members of a peace organisation to counter the presence of military recruiters by talking with high school students about options other than joining the service, according to a spokesperson for the group.

Why, Even If You Have Nothing To Hide, Government Surveillance Threatens Your Freedom

« I’ve got nothing to hide, so electronic surveillance doesn’t bother me. To the contrary, I’m delighted that the Bush Administration is monitoring calls and electronic traffic on a massive scale, because catching terrorists is far more important that worrying about the government’s listening to my phone calls, or reading my emails. » So the argument goes. It is a powerful one that has seduced too many people.

Millions of Americans buy this logic, and in accepting it, believe they are doing the right thing for themselves, their family, and their friends, neighbors, community and country. They are sadly wrong. If you accept this argument, you have been badly fooled.
